Esopus Creek Tubing!!!

Love the river? Love nature? Are you a bit of a thrill seeker? Well, then this event is for you! On Sunday, September 5th, JOC will head to the Esopus Creek in the Catskills for our tubing trip on DAM RELEASE DAY! Gear up for this popular JOC trip! This event will fill up fast! Those who have gone before will tell you that if you have a thirst for ADVENTURE, this is one trip you should not miss. In the past, this trip was so wild and crazy, after the first run down the 70 attendees couldn't help but wonder how the heck it was legal. This year's trip promises to be as adrenaline pumping as ever!

WARNING:

1) You will get wet on this ride!
2) You will flip!
3) You may get some scratches and bruises!
4) You will have fun!

On a serious note, some of us pointed out that the inherent risks involved weren’t properly disclosed last year. I urge you to take the above warnings seriously. If you’re not sure whether this trip is for you I strongly encourage you to contact me and discuss BEFORE you sign up. On the same note I’d like to recruit volunteers this year to help those of us stranded along the way. Please message me if you’re an Esopus Creek survivor from a Dam Release day if you’re available to help.

Cost:

$27 (plus $15 to reimburse your driver if you need a ride)

Early Bird Rate:

Take advantage of our early bird rate for only $20 if you register by Sunday, August 22nd.

Refund Policy:

Cancellations will be granted for a 100% refund until Sunday, August 22nd. Beyond that there will be no refunds.

The above rates include tube rental, life jacket, shuttle up to the creek, helmet, and lots of snacks (pretzels, chips, chumus...). This is less than you would pay for this package if you went on your own.

Schedule:

We will sign in at 12pm and expect to hit the river @ 12:30 sharp. Please note that it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there from the city. Make sure to budget your time accordingly. I strongly recommend leaving a few minutes early in case you get lost or stuck in traffic. The ride down the creek takes about 2 hours. We will meet after that for a picnic. People usually hang out by the picnic tables till late afternoon, while we send out rescue teams to find those who missed the turnoff. Snacks will be served.

Packing List

Bring bathing suit, water shoes or sneakers/footwear that you don't mind getting wet (flip flops won’t do), sunscreen, plenty of drinking water (at least two bottles), a camera, money, eyeglass retainers (if necessary) and also bring lunch (snacks will be available at the picnic areas).

Ride Share:

We will send out a spreadsheet with the contact details of our drivers as soon as we close registration. Each passenger will be expected to reimburse their driver $15 for gas, toll, and wear & tear.

How do I sign up?

1)   Send $20 via www.paypal.com to Wolcowitz@yahoo.com (or $27 if you sign up after August 22nd).

2) Follow the registration link above and its instructions. Please DO NOT REGISTER UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE PAID.

Please note your registration is NOT complete until both of the above steps are completed. Should you encounter any difficulties during the registration process please don’t hesitate to contact me. Wolcowitz@yahoo.com

Is it dangerous?

Like I wrote, this is a pretty wild run. I don't mean to scare anyone, but yes, people have drowned on the Esopus, (just as people have drowned canoeing the Delaware River or kayaking the Hudson, though most of them were drunk). Be responsible, listen carefully to instructions given by the outfitter, follow the course, and you should be fine.

What if it is raining?

We'll go in light rain. In the event of thunderstorms we’ll cancel and issue a full refund.

See ya all on the river!!!
